We are exploring something new for the fourth seminar of our New Horizon for Seniors Program on Saturday, October 5th. It will be in two parts. The first part will be an informative talk on Art Therapy and the second part will see you painting tropical scenery.
Cylene Rainville, who received her Masters in Art Therapy from Concordia University and works in the Ministry of Health, has been able to bring the therapeutic value of the creative process in her work, She will talk about how Art Therapy is for all ages - how it helps to improve the memory and cognitive functions, stimulates the senses to become sharper and enhances thinking skill and brings forth positive emotion, is relaxing and decreases agitation. Cylene's talk will be from 1 - 2:30 pm downstairs in the Music Room.
Afterward, for the cost of $35 per person, which includes paint, easel, brushes, a 16x20 canvas, and a water cup.you are invited to the upper level for a special Paint Day from 2:30 - 4:30 pm.
You will be painting vibrant and serene scenes from the tropics! Under the guidance of Liesl from Artist's Palette Durham, this creative event promises a relaxing afternoon filled with colour and inspiration.
Liesl is an accomplished artist and teacher from Durham, well-known for her passionate, talented artwork and inspiring teaching style. With her easy-to-follow instructions, you’ll be able to create your very own masterpiece, whether you're a beginner or an experienced painter.
Apron: Please note, we do not provide aprons, so be sure to bring your own!

Payment: No payment is required for the Art Therapy talk, but if you are staying for the painting class, a payment of $35 will be collected upstairs prior to the start of the class.
